Knotcraft Centre Nepal
Nepal Knotcraft Centre is a leading producer of knotted products (also called macramé), wood carvings, and goods made from natural fibers.
The company was founded in 1984 by Shyam Badan Shrestha with a vision to “weave opportunities for women and marginalized communities.” It started with just three women and simple knotted products, and today hundreds of socially and economically vulnerable Nepali women are part of the work.
Shyam Badan Shrestha started with very few resources and taught herself the technique, but over more than 40 years has developed the craft into a source of dignity, income, and independence for women throughout Nepal. Her approach goes beyond production. Women are trained, organized, and given the opportunity to create their own future.
The products are handmade from traditional plant fibers such as water hyacinth, banana stem, and bamboo, materials that are locally rooted and sustainably used.
Our beautiful angels, baskets, and coasters are made by Nepal Knotcraft Centre.
