Thimi stoneware

Thimi stoneware

Thimi stoneware is made in Nepal by local potters from Thimi Ceramics, who focus on high quality and simple design. The sale of stoneware helps secure the income base for families in the area.

Craft Sisters work closely with the sons who run the family business founded by their father in 1987. Thimi Ceramics was the first in Nepal to introduce glazed stoneware, and over the years they have further developed and modernized their stoneware and have arrived at the pure expression that fits well with the Scandinavian, minimalist style.

Stoneware differs from classic ceramics in that the glazing is fired into the clay at over 1000 degrees heat. This makes the products durable and dishwasher safe.

Craft Sisters has worked with Thimi Ceramics since 2016 and has established a close collaboration, and we have visited the company several times.

Nepal's infrastructure in the mountains means that working with Thimi Ceramics can present challenges regarding time, shipping costs, and logistics. However, these challenges are outweighed by the beautiful products and the fact that we can help maintain a family-owned business with a traditional craft that helps secure the income base for families in the area.
