Wawcas International Nepal
The idea for Craft Sisters arose during a trip to Nepal in 2015 with WAWCAS International. Since then, we have worked on projects that combine craftsmanship and empowerment of Nepalese women.
WAWCAS stands for Women at Work, Children at School and was founded in 2008 by Nina Schriver and Sangeeta Shrestha with a vision to help women in poverty create an independent and dignified life.
Through a 16-month training program, women learn to build their own small businesses and achieve financial independence. When women gain a stable income, their children also get the opportunity for schooling and a better future.
Since its inception, WAWCAS has trained thousands of women and created lasting changes for both families and local communities. The program is based on community, entrepreneurship, and long-term development.
In collaboration with the local team in Nepal, Craft Sisters has developed products focusing on quality, materials, and craftsmanship, while the women build their own businesses.
Among other things, we purchase small goods such as hemp gloves and woven purses from the WAWCAS women.
